Hype in Germany - Gigfaking
Ypulse has an interesting post on a new trend in Germany. It's called Gigfaking. According to the makers, gigfaking is a kind of karaoke or playback show via Messenger: two guys get in contact by MSN Messenger video conversation. They switch on their webcams, pump up the volume of their pc loudspeakers and together start a wild and funny playback mosh pit performance - called a private gig. The Gig Fakers are the new generation of head-bangers or air guitar players - just having fun with a wild music performance as an online-game. Gig faker uses the MSN Messenger like a stage. They arrange to meet each other there to start their music performances."
To me, this illustrates once again that the success of the application is in its play value, just like Flickr shows us for photo sharing and just like Google Maps shows us for mapping services.
