Earlier this year we mentioned this initiative from The Firefox Foundation, the organisation behind the popular FireFox browser.
In a similar mindset they invite their global fanbase to throw Firefox parties this weekend to celebrate the release of Firefox 2.0. On the Google map there's even a party on Antartica. Besides the fact that this string of parties might qualify as the biggest geekfest ever (581 parties and more than 4000 geeks at this time of writing), it's of course a fantastic idea that coincides with other civic get-togethers and which might actually work for brands outside the grass roots realm of open source software.
